My higher education began in North Dakota with a B.A. in Nursing from Jamestown College. I graduated with my Master of Science from South Dakota State University. My focus of study was nursing and psychiatry. I am certified by American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
I completed my Associates of Science In Nursing from the University of South Dakota and her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing with Aspen University, and completed my Master's in Family Nurse Practitioner from Walden University in November of 2020. I am AANP certified.
I earned my Masters in Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Liberty University and am licensed as a Professional Counselor in the state of South Dakota. I am trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and trauma-informed approaches to therapy. My passion is to partner with each client to work toward their goals and I tend toward an eclectic use of evidence-based therapy practices to support work toward client goals. I have experience in working with adults in both individual and group settings. I specialize in work with trauma, co-occurring disorders, SPMI, behavioral and emotion dysregulation concerns, and the military community.
I graduated from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine with my medical degree in 1992. I continued my medical training in the General Psychiatry Residency program at the USD School of Medicine in Sioux Falls, completing my specialty training in 1996. I began my independent medical career as a staff psychiatrist working at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center. I have worked for 7 years at the Human Service Agency in Watertown. I was the adult psychiatrist and medical director at HAS and have provided services at the Keystone Treatment Center in Canton, SD.
I have a wealth of experience working with adults in many psychiatric settings. I treat the full range of common psychiatric conditions, including mood disorders such as bipolar and major depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. I have particular interest in helping people with co-occurring disorders, such as substance abuse in patients who have mood and/or anxiety disorders. I provide medication management but understand the importance and effectiveness of other treatment modalities, including individual counseling, group therapy and 12-Step programs, as well as more intensive outpatient services for people afflicted with serious mental illness.
I received my Bachelor of Arts Psychology degree in 1995 at Armstrong State University in Savannah, Georgia and my Masters of Science from South Dakota State University in 2005. I am licensed as a Professional Counselor and Addictions Counselor. Over the past 26 years, my passion has been focused on working with teenagers, individuals, couples and families that are seeking the skills and support to make lifestyle changes that will empower them to overcome the daily challenges that coincide with mental health issues.
I grew up with the military and have moved and traveled as a kid. I’ve lived in the Black Hills area 25 years, however. I completed my undergraduate studies from Black Hills State University and I received my Masters in Counseling and Human Development from South Dakota State University. I am trained in EMDR Therapy (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and Functional Family Therapy. I have over 10 years experience working with young children, teens, adults, and families who struggle with a wide array of ailments including, trauma, suicidality, anxiety, and depression. I am passionate about connecting with people to help them heal and grow.
I received my Masters of Science Degree in Counseling & Human Resource Development from South Dakota State University. I have over 30 years of combined experience in the Human Services field. I utilize Motivational Interviewing & Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, as well as place an emphasis on recognizing how mental health correlates with physical health. My counseling is client-directed focusing on what your needs are. Being a positive support person to empower you to feel balanced & fulfilled in your daily life.
